Sustainability Roadmap
The Vocational Education Sustainability Roadmap defines the shared mission of vocational institutions as builders of a sustainable future. Additionally, the roadmap provides a clear direction for the sustainability work of these institutions.

A Shared Direction for a Sustainable Future
The roadmap was developed through network collaboration with over 60 educational institutions between 2022 and 2023.
The vision of the Sustainability Roadmap is vocational education that builds a carbon-neutral society within the ecological limits of the planet. The roadmap outlines how the educational values, tasks, and roles will evolve. The strengthening tasks identified for vocational institutions are:
- Building a sustainable future
- Promoting eco-social education
- Fostering active citizenship

The background of the roadmap work is based on Finland’s commitments to international sustainability efforts, including the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN Biodiversity Convention, and the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030.
The Sustainability Roadmap illustrates how vocational education providers can, through their actions and in collaboration with their partners, contribute to the transition towards a sustainable society and working life.

The Roadmap consists of five action areas
The roadmap work has created goals and action pathways for five key focus areas of sustainability work:
- Leadership and Organisational Culture
- Pedagogical Solutions and Learning Environments
- Staff Expertise and Professional Identity
- Partnerships that Transform Society
- Carbon Neutrality by 2035
