Reduce Environmental Impact
The vision of the Vocational Education Sustainability Roadmap is vocational education that builds a carbon-neutral society operating within the planet’s ecological limits. Sustainable future skills are best learned in institutions and workplaces that develop their own practices towards sustainability. By considering and reducing their climate and environmental impacts, institutions and workplaces create environments where sustainable lifestyles are integrated into daily life. An institution or workplace can also take an active role in developing and promoting circular and regenerative economy solutions, for example, at a regional level.

As part of the sustainability roadmap work, a carbon footprint calculation tool, specifically designed for vocational education, has been developed—the Carbon Footprint Calculator. It is recommended that institutions committed to the roadmap calculate their carbon footprint annually and develop emission reduction pathways based on these calculations, with progress tracked over time. The results of the carbon footprint calculation are reported annually on a shared platform. This monitoring creates visibility for the achievement of the roadmap’s goals.
